Open issues at shift change become work orders for the next shift

Supervisors log the shift's issues in a handover app on the line tablet. Open machine faults become MaintainX work orders for the next shift, the incoming supervisor signs for the handover, and Power BI shows the faults that keep coming back.

Used day to day by
  • Shift supervisors
  • Maintenance team
  • Plant heads

How it runs with AI

Supervisors log each issue in the handover app on the line tablet, with a photo, before the shift ends. Open machine faults become MaintainX work orders for the next shift's technician, the handover reaches the incoming supervisor on Teams, and they sign for it. Each morning, Power BI shows the plant head which faults keep coming back.

Step by step

Where the work happens, what the AI does, and where it hands over to a person.

  1. Step 1, AI

Collects the issues the outgoing supervisor logs on the line tablet, with photos

Needs to know: Machines on each line

    In Handover app

  2. Step 2, AI

Turns each open machine fault into a MaintainX work order for the next shift's technician

Needs to know: Work order rules, Technician on each shift, Safety-critical faults

    In MaintainX , Microsoft Teams

    Exception to step 2

Alerts the maintenance head on Teams at once when a fault touches safety

  3. Step 3, AI

Posts the handover on Teams for the incoming supervisor, with the work order numbers

    Needs to know: Shift roster

    In Microsoft Teams

  4. Step 4, Person

Reads the handover, signs for it and decides what runs until the faults are fixed

    In Handover app

  5. Step 5, AI

Shows the plant head each morning which faults keep coming back across shifts

Needs to know: Fault history by machine, Repeat fault limit

In Handover app , Power BI

What stays with a person

  • Reads the handover, signs for it and decides what runs until the faults are fixed

Apps in this example

  • Handover app
  • MaintainX
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Power BI

The same flow works with the apps you use.

This fits you if

  • Your plant runs 2 or 3 shifts, and supervisors hand over in a logbook or in person
  • Your maintenance work orders are in MaintainX
  • Supervisors already carry a phone or use a tablet on the line
  • The same machine faults come back across shifts before anyone looks at the pattern
  • Your plant head already reviews the plant's numbers in Power BI

What to watch for

  • Whether a machine with a safety fault runs is a person's decision. The app alerts the maintenance head at once and records who signed the handover
  • The maintenance head decides which issues become work orders, at what priority and for whom, and updates that list when machines or crews change
  • A repeat in Power BI is a prompt to look closer. The maintenance head decides the fix, such as a die change or a spare part order
  • Each handover carries two names, the supervisor who logged it and the one who signed for it, so a gap is easy to trace
